Turkish Airlines And Airlink Forge Strategic Codeshare Agreement To Boost Connectivity Across Africa
In a major step towards enhancing its African footprint, Turkish Airlines—the national flag carrier of Türkiye—has entered into a codeshare agreement with South Africa-based regional airline Airlink. The partnership, effective August 1, 2025, marks a strategic milestone in expanding travel options across Africa and beyond.
The agreement was signed at a ceremony at Airlink’s headquarters in Johannesburg, which was attended by senior executives from both airlines, and is intended to connect Turkish Airlines extensive global network with Airlink’s wide domestic and regional network in Southern Africa.
As part of the codeshare arrangement, Turkish Airlines will place its “TK” flight code on select Airlink-operated routes. This will enable passengers flying into Johannesburg and Cape Town on Turkish Airlines to seamlessly connect to numerous destinations within South Africa and neighboring countries—offering the convenience of multi-sector travel on a single ticket.
Commenting on the development, Levent Konukcu, Chief Investment & Strategy Officer at Turkish Airlines, said, “This partnership with Airlink is instrumental in strengthening our connectivity across South Africa and the wider region. We are committed to maximizing travel opportunities for our guests while also fostering commercial, cultural, and tourism ties between our nations.”
Airlink CEO De Villiers Engelbrecht added, “Our partnership with Turkish Airlines reinforces Airlink’s growing global reputation and offers customers a broader range of travel choices. It reflects our shared commitment to providing world-class service and greater access across our networks.”
This codeshare agreement is expected to play a pivotal role in Turkish Airlines’ broader strategy to deepen its presence across the African continent, while offering passengers enhanced flexibility, connectivity, and convenience in regional and international travel.
