Indigo To Launch Direct Flights From Bhubaneswar To Abu Dhabi In June 2025
Indigo’s new flight route from Bhubaneswar to Abu Dhabi, set to commence in June 2025, marks a significant development in Odisha’s air connectivity. This service, launched under the Building Management of Aviation Assets and Network (B-MAAN) initiative, aligns with the state government’s vision of enhancing global connections. The flights will operate thrice weekly, on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays, and will connect Bhubaneswar to the growing international aviation network.
The Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) of Odisha expressed enthusiasm about the development, highlighting its potential to stimulate tourism, business, and trade between Odisha and the United Arab Emirates. The new route to Abu Dhabi will serve as a gateway for passengers traveling to the Gulf region and beyond, facilitating ease of movement for both tourists and professionals. In addition to Abu Dhabi, Bhubaneswar now has direct flights to other international destinations such as Dubai, Kuala Lumpur, Singapore, and Bangkok, reinforcing its growing stature as an international air travel hub.
The announcement has been met with positive reactions, as local business leaders and tourism operators foresee significant economic benefits. The direct connectivity will open up new avenues for investment, particularly in sectors like education, health, and technology. Additionally, the government’s focus on expanding international ties underscores Odisha’s ambition to position itself as a key player in the global marketplace.
The Biju Patnaik International Airport, which handles 5 million passengers annually, is also undergoing a major infrastructure overhaul. With the construction of a third terminal, the airport’s capacity is expected to soar to 8 million passengers per year, accommodating the rising demand for both domestic and international travel. This infrastructure expansion will play a crucial role in meeting the growing air traffic needs of Odisha, as well as enhancing passenger comfort and operational efficiency.
Experts believe that the expansion of air connectivity will boost the state’s economy by attracting tourists and fostering business partnerships. With a focus on infrastructure development, the state government has already announced plans for other domestic flights, including daily services to Visakhapatnam starting in June. This progressive approach reflects the government’s commitment to creating a more connected, prosperous Odisha in the years to come.
The airline industry’s role in regional development has been acknowledged by various stakeholders, with IndiGo’s expansion being hailed as a vital step toward improving global access for the region. The ongoing transformation of Bhubaneswar’s aviation infrastructure is expected to play a pivotal role in attracting foreign investments and creating more jobs, further enhancing the state’s global reputation.
