Collins Aerospace to Expand Spokane Carbon Brake Plant
Collins Aerospace to Expand Spokane Carbon Brake Plant
A More than 50% Expansion
Collins officials said the project would potentially add three buildings and new furnaces to the Spokane carbon brake plant. The 70,000-square-foot expansion would increase the facility’s overall manufacturing space by more than 50%.
Growing Demand for Carbon Brakes
The company said that the initiative would help meet the growing demand for its carbon brakes from commercial and military aircraft customers and add new efficiencies and process innovations at the site.
Carbon Brakes: More Durable and Cost-Effective
Collins says carbon brakes are more durable and better able to withstand high temperatures than rival systems. The Spokane facility’s braking systems, in particular, are made with the company’s Duracarb carbon disk technology, which offers a longer product lifespan and better cost-efficiency.
An Undisclosed Number of New Jobs
The announcement did not disclose how many new jobs would be added as part of the expansion, but Washington Gov. Jay Inslee said they would contribute to a growing aerospace industry in the Spokane area.
RTX was known as Raytheon Technologies Corporation until last summer. In addition to its Raytheon and Collins businesses, RTX also includes aircraft engine manufacturer Pratt & Whitney.
